Both of these mowers are on the pricey side, one more so than the other, so let’s see which is worth the purchase.

Design

You will see significant differences between the designs of these two mowers. They are two of the best electric mowers on the market but you will see that these differences ultimately affect the performance and user-friendliness of the mowers. Take a look at the specs below (zoom to view individual specs).

Now let us discuss each…

Starting your mower – The controls

➳Start option

For both mowers, we have the same convenient start option – push-button and pull bail switch/lever to start. As seen in the picture above, both are comfortably placed.

➳ Self-propel mode

For the EGO self-propelled mower, when you are ready to engage the self-propel mode, you press one of the self-propel triggers conveniently located on the handlebar on both sides. Here we can see that EGO considered the left-handed people also.

For the Snapper self-propelled mower, you have to pull the self-propel lever towards the handle but it is not placed as close to the handlebar as we would like. You would need to take a two-handed approach.

➳ Handle adjustments

EGO is more convenient. The mower has a telescoping handle that folds over the mower as seen in the EGO introductory video above.

Snapper requires a bit of unscrewing to fold the handle over the mower for storage.

Also, EGO provides the user with 5 different handle position options while Snapper does not.

For EGO, the 5 positions include:

1. Locked Storage Position
2. Grass Bag Attachment/Removal Position
3. Upper Operating Position
4. Middle Operating Position
5. Lower Operating Position

The attachments and mowing options

The Mulching plug and chutes of both mowers are easily attached and easily removed. However, the bags are different.

➳ Bag

 Both have sturdy bags, durable bags but the EGO bag is slightly bigger. Snapper has a 1.6-bushel bag while EGO has a 1.86 – bushel bag but both are big enough so that you do not need to spend half of your mow time emptying the bag.

For the Snapper bag, it is hard to tell when the bag is full because it is not “see-through” and there is no load sensing technology present. You know it is full when the mower bogs down, which is not the most convenient way to find out.

Deck

EGO has a plastic deck while Snapper has a steel deck. Both are 21″ wide.

Headlights

Are you planning to do some night mowing? Yes? Well EGO has you covered. There are headlights on the battery housing of the mower. Snapper has not added headlights as yet.

Weight

The EGO self-propelled mower is much lighter than the Snapper XD self-propelled mower. EGO is only 54.5 lbs while Snapper weighs 81 lbs.

The wheels

 Both EGO and Snapper made their wheels from sturdy material with nice grooves for easy maneuverability and zero dragging. They are both rear-wheel drive so the back wheels are bigger than the front wheels but EGO has bigger wheels. For EGO, the front wheels are 8-inches and the back wheels are 10-inches while for the Snapper XD, the front wheels are 7-inches while the back wheels are 9-inches.

The height adjustments

Both mowers use a single lever to adjust all four wheels between 7 positions. Snapper has 7 positions between 1 3/8 inches and 3 3/4 inches while EGO cuts from 1 1/2 inches to 4 inches high. Both mowers offer adequate height options as it is recommended that the average lawn should be between 2 inches and 3 1/2 inches (5 cm to 8.3 cm) during summer and between 1 1/2 inches to 2″ (3.8 to 5 cm) during cooler months.

However, there have been complaints from other customers who bought the Snapper XD self-propelled lawn mower that when using the mower at position 3 and up, the front wheel does not adjust equally with the rear wheel. Therefore, you get an uneven cut when going through tall grass.

The blades

For EGO, there are more options with the blades. EGO has a dual blade system with an extra mulching blade added to the mix. They also have an extra blade in the box, high lift blade, which gives more effective cutting. Snapper only comes with 1 blade.

Battery

Both EGO and Snapper have lithium-Ion batteries. This is good because they tend to last longer than lead-acid batteries.

EGO comes with only one 56 V 7.5 Ah battery and it takes 60 minutes to charge while Snapper comes with two (2) 82 V 2 Ah batteries that take 30 minutes each to charge.

Motor

Both mowers have brushless motors that are more energy-efficient than motors with brushes but Snapper comes with (2) 82 V 2.0 Ah batteries while EGO has a 56 V, 7.5 Ah battery. Which mower do you think is more powerful? We will discuss this in the Power and performance section below.

Storage options

Both offer space-saving technology where the mowers can be stored vertically as seen in the videos above.

Overall, we think EGO has the better design.

Power – Which mower do you think is more powerful?

Well, to find out which is more powerful, you can calculate it theoretically (without considering all the other technologies going into the mower to make it use the battery power efficiently) or you can use the performance of the mowers as your impression. Let’s work out the theoretical side then compare it to the actual performance of the mower. This is where we get a bit geeky

Power = Voltage X Current

So according to theory, EGO has the capacity to give 427 Wh while Snapper gives 160 Wh (80 V x 2 Ah).

Performance – How does this translate into your mowing?

Cut quality

Both EGO and Snapper self-propelled mowers offer great cut quality but as I mentioned before, you might get an uneven cut with Snapper at higher height adjustments while with EGO you get a clean even cut at all times.

Run time

The EGO 56 V self-propelled mower will give you 60 minutes of run time on moderately grown, dry grass. In thick, wet grass, you will see and 10 – 15 minutes decrease in run time.

For the Snapper XD 82 V self-propelled mower, you will get 30 minutes of run time from a fully charged battery if you have a flat lawn with dry grass that is not too thick or tall. This time goes down to as little as 15-20 minutes depending on the lawn. But you have a second battery so you can just pop it in and start moving again while the other one charges.

Mulching

Snapper will get you through a dry lawn with little left behind but a wet lawn will leave you frustrated trying to mulch or bag those wet leaves.

With the new mulching blade and improved motor design from the older model, the EGO self-propelled mower will get the leaves.

Bagging

Both mowers do a good job at bagging but the 82 V Snapper XD self-propelled mower bogs down when the bag is almost full.

Self Propel Mode

For snapper, when the self-propel mode is engaged, faster speeds will compromise cut quality in tall or thick grass so you will need to go slow in these conditions. For EGO, cut quality is preserved.

Noise level

Both mowers are very quiet when compared to a gas mower. Both EGO and Snapper range between 78-82 dB. So you can mow at any time without worrying about complaints from the neighbors.

Overall, we think the EGO 56 V 7.5 Ah self-propelled mower performs better than Snapper XD 82 V 2.0 Ah self-propelled mower

Efficiency and Ease of Use

Both the EGO and the Snapper self-propelled mowers are easy to use but EGO gets the edge over Snapper for several reasons.

1. The controls are more conveniently placed on the EGO handle.
2. EGO provides the same run time with one battery as the snapper with 2 batteries, so no switching necessary.
3. The EGO is easier to maneuver around corners in self propel mode than the Snapper. The back wheels of the Snapper XD self-propelled mower tends to lock when turning so you have to release the self propel handle and push the mower to turn. For EGO, you just turn and continue while driving.
4. For EGO, you can tell when the bag is full because it is see-through but for Snapper, you know it is time to empty the bag when the mower begins to bog down.
5. While both mowers offer compact storage with the option of storing vertically, Snapper is heavier than EGO. If you need to lift your mower to the garage and you have back problems, you might want to consider getting the EGO instead of the Snapper. EGO is over 25 lbs lighter than the snapper.
6. EGO has a telescoping handle and 5 different handle adjustments for different functions and personal comfort.

For both mowers, cleaning the deck is very simple. All you need to do is use a damp cloth to wipe.

For storage, there is no need to winterize. Just put the mower in the garage away from corrosive material such as fertilizers and insecticides and keep the batteries in a cool, dry place.

For both Snapper and EGO, the batteries are very easy to charge. For people switching from a gas to electric mower, If you are coming from a gas mower, you no longer need to worry about gas mixing, oil changing, or filter. 

Overall, the EGO self-propelled mower is more user-friendly than Snapper self-propelled mower

Durability

---

Both mowers come from very reputable companies with durable products. EGO is known for its quality in the electric lawnmower industry and has been at the top for a while. Snapper is powered by a Briggs and Stratton and comes with a 16-gauge steel deck so we have no reason to believe it is going anywhere anytime soon.

Of note, a lot of electric lawn mowers have battery issues after 2 or 3 seasons of use but there have not been any complaints about the batteries from any of the two companies.

Overall, due to the Steel deck on the Snapper, Snapper gets the edge over EGO for durability.

Ease of acquiring replacements for wearable parts

EGO takes the cake here again. You can order batteries, chargers, blades, etc, online for the EGO self-propelled mower but for Snapper, blades are very hard to find online. You have to call the company and have them direct you to a dealer.

Warranty and customer support

---

EGO takes the win here again. While both have a good time on the Warranty, the customer support for Snapper is not a great as EGO. For Snapper, from what I have seen online, some customers complain that it is difficult to connect to a person on the phone and when you do get through, it is hard to get replacements for damaged parts.

For domestic use, EGO gives 5 years warranty on the mower and 3 years warranty on the battery while the Snapper XD 82V self-propelled mower comes with 5 years warranty on the mower and 2 years warranty on the batteries.

In the end, I think we are all on the same page for this comparison of the EGO 56 V Self Propelled Mower Review -Versus-Snapper XD 82 V Self Propelled Mower Review and we discovered the mower worth purchasing.

Both mowers are currently going for similar prices. They are both great mowers and whichever one you choose, it will still be a good purchase. Considering that EGO gives you better performance, has a better design, is easier to use, and has a better warranty, I would say EGO is better value for your bucks.
