I am usually very critical of these expensive automowers and after conducting my research on Husqvarna Automower 430X, regardless of the price, I am still very impressed by its performance. While robotic mowers are very cool to look at, many of them are just that, cool toys to look at.
They often cannot handle a real lawn and just get stuck and confused looking like a lost puppy on your lawn. Is this Husqvarna automower any different from the rest? Well, we completed our updated review. Take a look at our results.

The price of the Husqvarna almost triples that of the best review done here so far based on quality for the price, which is the WORX WG794 28-volt Landroid Robotic Lawn Mower review. It is below USD 1000 so whenever I see these high priced mowers like Robomow and Ego, I use WORX as the minimum standard because it is a really sweet deal for the quality in that little bott.
What is the Husqvarna Automower 430X and how does it work?
So the Husqvarna Automower 430X is from a series of automowers available from the Husqvarna company that has the intelligence to work independently to cut your lawn. This is the second to last one in the line of robotic mowers at Husqvarna.
The latest is the Husqvarna Automower 450X – Robotic Lawn Mower
These mowers work by using a low voltage guidewire and a very intelligent user interface to cut your lawn.
Your only task is setting up the user interface and the charging station connected to the guidewire which sets the parameters for your 430X bot to work. After that, you will have an almost maintenance-free yard for years.
Unlike the WORX WG794 robotic mower, the Automower 430X also has a GPS that uses a satellite connection to communicate with your phone. So you can change settings and monitor it from your phone from anywhere.

Reality Versus Expectations
Throughout this review, we will be looking at how well the mower actually works Versus how well the company claims it will work. We will use the video above from Husqvarna and the specs above as the company claims and videos and other reviews from actual customers as a basis for reality.
Design
Here are the specs on the Husqvarna Automower 430X. What do these specs mean for your lawn? This is explained below.
This mower was designed with 20 years of automower experience behind it. Although it has a stellar design, it also has its flaws.
The Good:
User Interface – The technology that free-spirited automower owners cannot live without
What is special about this interface is that it can be monitored from your phone. Landroid has to be manually programmed each time you want to change a setting.
You can go on a vacation to Paris and change the settings on your mower while it is at home working for you. There is an app you can download called Automower Connect that allows you to monitor your automower from anywhere you are.
You can get the app on the iOS App Store or Google Play for Android phones. It also has an app for the apple watch phone.
You can also track where the automower has been, using satellite imagery of your lawn and a heat sensor pattern.
If you cannot get the app, you can opt to get text message updates.
The mower also comes with a remote in the case that there are any areas that you would like to do a special cut.
Spiral cut feature – Do you have flower beds?
The spiral cut feature allows the automower to move in perfect circles. This is great not only to look at. The spiral cut feature is an especially useful mobility and flexibility feature for people who have flower beds weaved into their lawns.
If you have a flower bed or few, your Husqvarna will automatically switch to spiral mode around your flower bed and switch back when it moves away from it.

Power – What kind of power is this robot packing?
Power and Performance – How did Husqvarna pull off a 5-star rating?
What matters here is how well the mower can handle lawns with slopes and ditches and somewhat high grass, in the rain, without underperforming.
Slope management
- It can go up and down slopes of up to 45% without compromising on the quality of the cut and without crossing the boundaries set by the guidewire.
- Even if the guidewire is set horizontally across the slope and the automower is coming downhill, it does not cross over. This has been a major design flaw in other automowers.

2. Heights of grass cut:
- It cuts between 0.8 to 2.5 inches off the top of the grass so you can set it to cut at 2.5 inches at first then adjust it again to do a second trip getting it lower if you wish. This leaves clippings of grass that you do not need to rake.

Ease of Use – The installation process is time-consuming!
It is not that hard, just very time-consuming.
- You sketch the area you intend to let your automower work then you decide where you can place your charging station.
(It should be placed on a flat surface close to a power outlet with a clear path for the automower to travel home)
- After this, all you need to do is lay your guidewire to tell the mower its limits.
While laying the wire does not take a genius, it takes patience.
The Husqvarna 430X Automower is recommended for lawns up to 0.8 acres so let me just tell you that it will take a while for you to layout your wire around the parameters especially if you have a very intricate lawn with narrow connections, trees with trenches around them and flower beds.
I would hire someone to do it but you might have the patience to get it done by yourself. Good luck with that. Added to that, you have to measure the distance between each peg that you place and the edge of your mowing area to ensure that it is at least 14 inches away from the edges.
Overall, going through this process once is nothing compared to the trouble and time wasted mowing your lawn for two to four hours weekly or bi-weekly, especially in the rainy season.

Efficiency -How well does the mower live up to the Husqvarna company’s claims?
Husqvarna 430X automower can cover up to 0.8 acres at maximum efficiency just like the manual said. A lot of companies promise that their mowers can cut grass on slopes well but this is rarely the case.
- Landroid often gets stuck in patches on your lawn while Husqvarna seems to have it covered. The 430X does better in patches because it not only turns but it accelerates whenever it is attempting to get out. Most mowers simply turn about in the patch then give an alarm after which you have to go and rescue it.
- The quality of the cut by Husqvarna 430X is pretty good. It gets your grass evenly done even in tall grass so you do not have to do a pre mowing before letting your Husqvarna loose on your  0.8 acres. It is however advised that you do so. This thing isn’t a miracle worker for your extremely overgrown grass!
- Unlike many other mowers including the WORX Landroid 794, Husqvarna 430X can mow around sharp corners and make patterns with sharply cut edges.
- The weather sensor allows the mower to work at maximum efficiency even in extreme weather and seasonal conditions because it automatically adjusts its programming the suit the weather and the season. Husqvarna cuts more often in the rainy season because it knows that the grass will be growing faster. Smart little bot.
Durability – How long will your fancy robotic mower actually last?
There is a 2-year warranty on these mowers but it depends on where you buy it. The sellers I mentioned above are covered.
The blades can be sharpened every month or so but if you need replacements you can buy them online or call Husqvarna and ask for a dealer near you.
This mower is waterproof unlike most electric mowers, so it will not melt in the rain like the others.
Nobody has complained about these automowers falling apart so far, so you are definitely getting a durable mower.
Ease of locating replacements for wearable parts
The good
If you need replacement parts, Husqvarna will direct you to the nearest dealer. You can also buy them on eBay or Amazon.
The bad
Dealers are located few and far in between and if you need to get an expert to fix it, I have seen complaints that said the dealers where they live do not have the expertise needed but you can call Husqvarna and ask about your area before purchasing.
Customer service support from the company
Value – Is this Husqvarna 430X automower worth the purchase?
After considering all the pros and the cons of the Husqvarna Automower 430X, I still say it is a bit too pricey. It is a great automower, no questions there. It is the best quality I have seen for its price so far but I still don’t know why they have to be so expensive. Maybe that is just me being cheap because this is an awesome mower.
The maintenance cost is very low so that is a plus. The mower will pay for itself in a few years if you currently hire someone to cut your lawn, plus the added free time you will have to do other things is invaluable.
Who this mower is suitable for and why Husqvarna beats the other expensive brandsÂ
- Elderly
- Disabled
- Busy individuals
- Looking to spend more time with the family
- People who hate mowing
- Do not feel secure allowing strangers to cut your lawn
- lawn size of up to 800 sq ft with slopes.
- Connecting lawns
- Complicated garden with narrow passageways.
- Travel a lot – mower can be monitored from your phone or computer.
If you are looking for a review of an Automower then you are obviously trying to save the time where you would normally spend hours cutting your lawn. So any automower that functions well will fill this gap but why would you choose to go with this brand? Well, four things really impressed me with this mower:
- It is weatherproof so It will work 7 days per week, rain or shine without any complications. So if you want to get more time for yourself but you do not want to compromise on the quality of your lawn, this little guy will be working for you day and night.
- It is 100% safe so if your neighbor tries to take it, not only will an alarm go off, but you can use the GPS to track anywhere it ends up from your phone so nobody wants to mess with this little guy. If you have kids or animals who play on the lawn, it stops if it comes into contact with them and turns away and goes back to work. It does not destroy your kid’s toys so if they accidentally leave it in the grass, it will not tear it to shreds.
- It has low maintenance costs. It ends up paying for itself in three of four years and it is durable so it will last.
- The most important factor is that this thing is just downright impressive. It gets your lawn neat, plush, and healthy whether you have a lot of slopes or a nice and flat lawn with a lot of flower beds, connecting gardens, sharp turns, you name it. And best of all, it gets it done so quietly at only 57dB without leaving any noticeable impressions in the grass. If you do not see it you will forget it’s there until someone says “wow, dude, your lawn is amazing” And who doesn’t want to answer “Oh that, thanks. My 430X robotic mower is out there mowing somewhere (sips tea)”

I have been looking for a mower like this for quite some time now. I plan to gift it to my father in law, he isn’t very well these days and I wanted something my husband I would be comfortable with him using on his own. The Husqvarna Automower 430X seems ideal because he has some concerning disabilities. I love the fact that it does not leave behind those pesky patches they can be really annoying. I have a question though, could you help me understand the difference between this and a self-propelled mower like the Ryobi 20-Inch 40V Self Propelled Lawn Mower? I just need to make a responsible purchase.

To answer your question, it is very common for people to assume that a self-propelled mower and an automower are the same but they are very different. Automowers are actually robotic lawnmowers that are remotely controlled without you having to touch the mower itself to steer it, while self-propelled mowers require someone walking behind it and steering the mower using the handle, therefore, they fall under “walk-behind” mowers. Walk-behind mowers are either “push mowers” (you would have to make the wheels move with force) or “self-propelled mowers” (engine moves the mower like a car but instead of sitting in it and using a steering wheel, you use the handle to steer it). Self-propelled mowers are good options for people who can walk but do not have the strength to push a regular push mower.

Wow… I’m already liking this automatic Husqvarna lawn mower. I don’t like mowing lawn, in fact, I’ve been thinking of have the lawn in the front and back yard removed. Wow I didn’t know you could get robotic mowers. I can certainly see the upside to having one but I guess they can easily get stuck between trees or bushes which is the downside. Your review is great and the mower seems really good but I think it is far too expensive. I hope they will go down in price and if they do I would certainly consider buying one.

So these mowers are indeed pricey compared to your normal push or self propelled walk behind mowers. I am waiting for the day when the prices go down too. But what I am coming to realize is that the companies charge so much because of the parts, research and man power they have to put in them. I still feel like we are paying for the finesse of the technology but man are they awesome.
 And about your concern. They do not get stuck in bushes. What is recommended is that you do a trim before setting the automower off to run for the first time. After that, they will maintain the lawn so that those bushes will not be growing back. If you mean that they will get stuck in plants around the garden, that is a no no also. They have a guide wire that you would run around objects that you do not want them to get stuck in or go past. The mower will get a signal from the guide wire and stay away from the plants.Â

What does it mean when you say it has a spiral cut feature? Why would you buy this one insteed of a cheaper robotic lawnmower. I would like to see a comparison side by side like amazon does chart between this robotic motor and some other. and be able to choose the lawnmower on your sites you’ve put. So the spiral cut is basically the mower cutting your lawn in a spiral motion. It starts in the center by cutting in a small circular motion then cuts along the edges of the circle until your entire lawn is done or it meets an obstacle. That was a great question. I am going to add a video of it doing that so people can see what that is. You can  scroll up to see that now.Â
We have done intensive research on other  mowers but I have not done a comparison chart for the automowers as yet but we are getting to it. Another great suggestion.Â

It gets to slope heights, manages patches, sharp corners, narrow channels and cuts through grass heights other robotic mowers only dream of .It can be monitored from anywhere using your phone  and once installed properly, it does not need a babysitter like most of the other automowers I saw. Also, the blades may  need to be changed or sharpened more often for  some lawns. Some people have a lot of stones in the lawn so the blades will not last as long. I was driving down the street the other day and I saw one of these cutting someones lawn! Talk about futuristic. I was blown away as that would have been the first time I noticed these on the market, and now I’ve stumbled across your site.
Wow, expensive eh? I guess it’s just like the Irobots Roomba vaccums. They are very expensive as well. I guess it makes sense, most electronics tools and equipment is expensive when it first comes to market. I am interested in looking more into this ” Irobot” mower though. Would this be your #1 suggested one? You ranked it pretty high, with other the replaceable parts and cost being under 5 stars so I assuming this is the best one out there right now?

We saw others that were pretty good as well but  the Husqvarna  is  very impressive for its price. The  main problems people have  with  these robots are that they are rain sensitive  and they do not handle patchy, complicated layouts or “slopey” lawns very well.  They will be out working all night so what if it starts to rain in the middle of the night? This  Husqvarna  mower does not get damaged in  the rain. It handle slopes like a pro and maneuvers through some very complicated lawns. This and the fact  that it is very low maintenance, is why we rated it so highly.
I love this mower. I hate to single out products on my Website but I must say that it is my favorite mower on this Website so far. I rated the Ego 56V Self propelled mower higher because of the relative price  Â
The Husqvarna Automower 430X looks t be just about what my husband would love for his birthday and now after reading your article I’m thinking about getting him one. I always thought the robotic mowers couldn’t be as good as hand held ones but it seems I may be wrong, things are changing and I need to catch up with them!

Goodness that’s an awesome video and concept! I’ve never even heard of this mower but the only thing I would change is the pattern it’s able to mow in. Some people like to cut their grass diagonal but I personally keep it simple like most people with straight lines. The fact that the mower goes in all different directions concerns me “slightly” but it also teaches itself the dimensions of your yard in doing so which is very innovative. The very first thing I noticed was it’s good for the environment and it’s quiet!
This was a great review and I actually WILL buy this in the future, not because I’m lazy but because it frees up more time for me to do everything else.

You’re welcome and there is no need to be concerned about the Husqvarna automower 430x mowing in many different directions. Many people share your concern but It does not leave any lines on your lawn so it will have one full smooth finish instead of random lines. From the customers comments I have seen, some people miss the lines made by the push mowers but most people are okay without it and grow to love the full plush look and feel of their lawn.Â
You know, based on the weight of the auto-mower I didn’t think it left lines but I also just wasn’t sure. I’ll know for my self sooner than later, we have a huge back yard and I wouldn’t mind trying this out!

This seems to be an excellent lawn mower. I really like the fact that it can transverse 45 degrees. That is very steep. When the grass is wet that probably feels like a slippery slide. I also like how quiet it is. It just runs in the background without a loud engine roaring all day. Being waterproof is a must since this baby will be running outdoors everyday. Speaking of babies, what really got my attention is the fact that your lawn mower can turn and avoid children and their toys. That would be nice for my daughter since I can leave her playing on the grass safely. She is still in her diapers so you can imagine how fragile she is. It’s nice that your lawn mower has an alarm if someone tried to steal it which shows how high tech it is. My question is, does it automatically charge itself everyday? I am assuming it doesn’t have a long extension cord attached to it. Am I wrong?

You are absolutely right in your assumption. It is a cordless mower and it goes to work for an hour or so then makes its way to a charging station that comes with the mower. It charges on the charging base then when the battery is full it goes back to work. This is what it does all day or whenever you tell it to. You can watch the fourth YouTube video on here to see how to set up the charging base and how it docks and charges itself once it gets drained.
Holy smokes! Have I been living under a rock?! I had no idea technology like this existed for grass cutting!
The price is a bit expensive, I guess – but for myself; I’m a single mom, working full-time… it’s such a hassle to keep up with the grass; especially with this rain and heat we get. I could cut it 3-4 times a week, it grows so fast.
Our lawn isn’t huge, and there aren’t a lot of areas that wold require difficult placing for the wires. I think it actually sounds really realistic. I guess my biggest concern would be whether or not this thing would last me long enough to get the worth for how much it costs. If it lasted 4-5 years, I’d say it’s worth it! I easily spend 5-6 hours a week just cutting grass. If the automower could do it for me, I’d take that as more time with my kids! And that is why I think it’s worth it! 😀

Lol you have been living under a rock. Kidding 🙂 Many people do not know these exist. Happy to be your source of enlightenment. About the durability of the Husqvarna 430x automower, Husqvarna is known for producing quality products and testing them rigorously before putting them on the market and based on what I have seen I do not think this 430x bot is the exception to that. So Mei, I guess the rest is up to you and how well you treat the little bot. It should last you way longer than your 4-5 years. Â
I hate doing things in the garden so I have bought it and it is a big big help in my life.
Now I do not have to waste my time in the garden ( I know for someone it feels good do not get me wrong I love being in the garden but doing work in it, not really)
So if someone is interested in buying this one I am recommending it 100%. It is not cheap but It is worth it.

You sound like me. I absolutely cannot imagine tending to a garden or a lawn. I love to see a well cut lawn and a well pruned garden but i’d rather pay someone to do it. How was the service from the seller I suggested? Also, could you stop by again in a few months and let me know how the mower is working out for you, maintenance cost etc.Â

This is a great tool for someone like me. It is expensive but if it is as reliable as Husqvarna says it is then there would be very few maintenance costs. Would how often you get the blades sharpened depend on how big your yard is? Can you sharpen them yourself or do you need to send them to Husqvarna? Even though it is expensive it is a one off cost and much cheaper than paying someone to do it for you. Husqvarna has always been reliable and it would be the brand I would choose for any tool including a robotic mower,

So you can sharpen the Husqvarna 430x automower blades yourself and you can replace the blades yourself also. If your lawn is smaller than the 0.8 acres and does not have a lot of stones and ruts then you might not need to sharpen them as often. You are right about the maintenance cost. It is very low because the parts are durable. It basically pays for itself in about 2-4 years if you were to consider paying someone to mow the lawn for you. This would be my choice mower too, especially if i had a big lawn with a lot of slopes and lived in an area where it rains a lot.Â
